2023

AUGUST 17 – Fantasy of Trees Workshop

10:00am at Lake Hills Presbyterian Church
As part of our Civics effort for this year, the club is preparing a Christmas tree to donate to the Fantasy of Trees to benefit Children’s Hospital. Join us as we craft some of the ornaments for the garden-themed trees.

SEPTEMBER 21 – Ivan Racheff House & Garden Tour

10:00am at 1943 Tennessee Ave.
Join members of the club at the Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs Headquarters, Racheff House & Gardens, to view this garden which is a Level II Arboretum. The Racheff professional gardener, Pam Inklebarger, will be our tour guide. In addition to this we will honor one of our founding members, Rita Powers. Refreshments will be served.

October 7 – Fall Garden Club Social Gathering

6:30pm.
We will create a wonderful outdoor experience in the magical sunken garden. Bring your spouse or significant other. Come and meet garden club members, old and new. Please notify the Social Committee of potential new members so they can be added to the invitation list.

NOVEMBER 16 – Basics of Pruning & Seed Swap

10:00am at Lake Hills Presbyterian Church
Speaker: Master Gardener Shelia McNeeley
Do you have shrubs that were damaged in the winter freeze? Are you uncertain when and what to prune? Come learn from experts about how to successfully prune. Also, bring any seeds that you would like to share with club members at the annual Seed Swap.

NOVEMBER 28 – Mailbox Toppers

10am.
Our fundraiser for December will be the mailbox toppers and swags created from greens from Lakemoor Hills. Join us to assemble these Holiday decorations.

DECEMBER 21 – Christmas Holiday Luncheon

10:00am.
Dress in your Christmas sweater and join the fun for our annual Christmas potluck luncheon. Bring a wrapped “garden” themed gift for the Dirty Santa Christmas gift swap.

2024

JANUARY 18 – Garden Craft

10am at Lake Hills Presbyterian Church
We will gather at the church to create attractive markers for plants in your garden using rocks that we will paint.

FEBRUARY 15 – Beekeeping & Pollinators

10:00am at Lake Hills Presbyterian Church
Speaker: Master Gardener Gina Bond
Learn from our in-house expert about her experiences tending bees and pollinator plants that support them.

MARCH 21 – What’s Happening Next Door?

10:00am at Lake Hills Presbyterian Church
Speaker: Ethan Parker, Director ETREC
Have you ever wondered what is happening on the UT Experimental Farm at Maloney Road and Alcoa Hwy? The Director of East Tennessee Agricultural Research and Education Center will join us to share some of the research that the university has underway next door to Lakemoor Hills.

MARCH 17-20 – Deep South Garden Clubs Convention

Location – Park Vista, Gatlinburg
Multi-day convention for which garden club members are encouraged to register and attend.

APRIL 18 – Wildflower Walk

10:00am (meet at the church to carpool to gardens)
Did you realize that UT has a lovely wildflower garden along Woodson Dr.? Each spring the hill is covered with cascades of pink, white, lavender, and yellow. Join us for this walk with your wildflower book and we can identify these lovely spring beauties.

MAY 26 – Research Facility for Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Meet at 9:00am at Lake Hills Presbyterian Church
Location – Twin Creeks Research Center, Gatlinburg, TN
Speaker: Janie Bitner, Director TFGC District IV
Visit the research center for the GSMNP and learn about how the documentation of the plants, insects and animals of the mountains has been done. Limited to 15 attendees for tour.

JUNE 20 – Lavender Craft

10:00am at Lake Hills Presbyterian Church
We will gather at the church to learn about growing lavender and to make accents with lavender blossoms. Collect antique handkerchiefs to make sachets and bring them with you to assemble sachets. Lavender blossoms will be provided.
