- Booth Registration Opens for Neighborhood Conference
Registration is now open for organizations wishing to have an information booth at The Neighborhood Conference on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at the Knoxville Convention Center.
Priority will be given to city and county governmental agencies, youth and youth service organizations, nonprofits that had a booth at the 2013 conference, and conference sponsors. However, it is anticipated that booth space will be available for other nonprofits on a first-registered, first-served basis. (Because booth space may be limited, registration does not guarantee a booth.)

Booth space is free to governmental agencies and nonprofits. See Information Booth Details for electrical and Wi-Fi connections, booth table size and decoration, limitations on serving food and beverages, and other details.
“Information booths are an extremely important part of this conference,” noted Griff Ashooh of the Office of Neighborhoods. “For this reason, the schedule for the day allows a full half-hour between sessions to give attendees ample time to visit booths where they can gain valuable information and contacts.”
The 2015 conference is expected to be larger than the 2013 conference, which attracted some 500 participants. There will be 33 workshops on a wide variety of topics, including several that will involve youth and a focus on youth issues. Other features include door prizes, a neighborhood tee shirt contest, entertainment, and the opportunity to meet other neighborhood advocates as well as city and county elected officials.

- Tour de Lights Will Roll December 19
The 8th Annual Tour de Lights — set for Friday evening, Dec. 19 — will cover a 5-mile route from Market Square to Gay Street to Emory Place and then through the Fourth & Gill and Old North neighborhoods, before returning back to downtown.
All ages and skill levels are welcome on the easy-paced ride. Residents and others not participating in the parade are encouraged to wave, cheer and sing to passing riders. Some 700 riders participated last year.
Prizes will be awarded for best decorated person, best decorated bicycle and best decorated helmet. Judging starts at 6 p.m. Free bike safety checks will be offered from 6 p.m. until the ride starts at 7 p.m. Helmets are required, along with a white front light and red rear reflector. Riders are urged to read the bike safety rules and tips for riding with a large group.
Hot chocolate and refreshments will be provided by Mast General Store and Three Rivers Market. Check out photographs from previous rides as well as the Facebook page.
Tour de Lights is presented by the City of Knoxville and managed by the Knoxville Regional Bicycle Program, housed within the Knoxville Regional Transportation Planning Organization.
- City Council Postpones Consideration of Sign Ordinance
Knoxville City Council this week took up the sign ordinance recommendation that the Metropolitan Planning Commission adopted at MPC’s November meeting.
However, rather than following the MPC recommendation to hire a consultant to finish developing proposed revisions to the sign ordinance, City Council postponed the matter until its February 17 meeting, for the express purpose of giving the Sign Ordinance Task Force an opportunity to meet again.
MPC made no specific recommendation regarding a number of unresolved issues and competing or overlapping proposals offered by the Task Force as well as MPC staff. See

City Councilman Duane Grieve said the Sign Ordinance Task Force will meet from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, in hopes of being able to present a set of revisions to City Council at a later date. Under that scenario, it is unlikely that a consultant will be needed.
