Name Change for Ginn Dr. on the Agenda Again

October 27, 2019 by Kathy Proctor

Knox County has published their agenda for the Nov. 14 Planning Commission Meeting (1:30 PM in the Main Assembly Room in the City County Building). On the agenda again  is the name change issue on Ginn Dr.
The current proposal reads as follows:
6. KNOXVILLE-KNOX COUNTY
File No. 9-C-19-SNC
PLANNING
Change Ginn Drive to ‘Ginn Farm Drive’ between Alcoa Highway and the dead-end of Ginn Drive at Maloney Road Park, southwest of Alcoa Highway, Council District 1.
Many of you have expressed your displeasure at the changing of the name of Ginn Dr. to Quiet Side Way since the area near Lakemoor Village was the original Ginn Farm. Is this new proposed change one that our neighborhood should accept?
You can send your letters of support or disagreement to [email protected] or send a letter to:
Knox Planning Commission
400 Main St, Suite 403
Knoxville, TN 37902
Or you can attend the meeting on Nov. 14 and let your views be known.

Emergency Text Alert Program Available for the Neighborhood

October 23, 2019 by Kathy Proctor

After the shooting incident in the neighborhood a few months back, it became obvious that we needed a quick method for disseminating information during emergencies to a large group in the neighborhood.   One of our neighbors volunteered to put together a alert system that works similar to Amber Alerts.  Anyone in the neighborhood can subscribe to the alert system by sending the word “details” from their cell phone to 55678.

The system will be used ONLY for emergencies such as verifiable threats that impact our neighborhood.  This could be criminal, weather, long term power outages or other incidents that impact our residents.

The LHHA board encourages all of you to participate in this free opportunity.  You will NOT be enrolled in the program unless you follow the instructions below:

Remember – SEND the word DETAILS to 55678 on your cellphone.

Closing of Montlake Entry at Alcoa – Oct. 23

October 19, 2019 by Kathy Proctor

Many of you have seen the digital display along Alcoa Hwy that announces that the exit from Alcoa Hwy to Montlake will close on October 23.   The Blalock project manager explained today that Montlake will remain closed until the completion of this phase of the Alcoa Hwy expansion.

This means that all residents of Lakemoor Hills will only be able to exit Alcoa Hwy heading south at Ginn Rd. and Maloney Rd.  You will  be able to enter Alcoa Hwy heading south at these two roads also.

But if you wish to head north to UT Hospital or downtown, your only choice will be to enter Alcoa Hwy by crossing the Maloney Rd. bridge over Alcoa and use the exit from the round a bout to access the northern lane.

If Montlake has been your entry and exit of choice, you may need to plan to add a few extra minutes to reroute to Maloney for the next 6 or 7 months.

October 10 Planning Meeting to Address Name Change of Ginn Rd.

October 4, 2019 by Kathy Proctor

PLANNING (previously called MPC) has published their draft agenda for their October 10, 2019 meeting.  Item #7  under STREET NAME CHANGES is a proposal to change the name of  Ginn Rd. (from Alcoa Hwy to the intersection with Maloney Rd). to  Quiet Side Drive.  There has been a sign posted near the intersection of Alcoa and Ginn that announces this proposed change.  Those of you that think this might not be such a good idea may want to attend the meeting that afternoon at the City County Building Main Assembly Room at 1:30 PM.

Planning staff had decided that this name change was necessary since with the Alcoa Hwy construction, Ginn Rd. no longer aligned and renaming the roads would reduce confusion.

We are blessed to have Dick Graf sitting on that board so you may want to share your thoughts about this with Dick before the meeting.  He has pointed out to the board that the Ginn farm was located on this side of Alcoa Hwy so history supports the road remaining the same name.

To view the entire agenda you may follow this link.   Planning

New and Improved Website Under Construction

July 17, 2019 by Kathy Proctor

The LHHA website has been a great tool for sharing information about neighborhood issues and events.  We are working to improve the site and adding some new capabilities.  To do this we are building a new site.

The current website will remain the same and we will migrate to the new one in late summer when it is ready to go live.
We are accumulating information about the history of our peninsula. Any old photos or stories would be appreciated.  We will provide spots to highlight clubs or organizations within the neighborhood also.
If you have suggestions or ideas to incorporate into the new site, please email to [email protected].
Be on the lookout for my announcement to let you know the new website has gone live.
