It is that time of the year again: Spring in Lakemoor Hills and time for the Dogwood Trail visitors! Many of you have already been at work, as you will see from the Neighborhood Cleanup Day Report below. Kathy Proctor organized and facilitated the cleanup with the assistance of 36 neighborhood volunteers. Many thanks to Kathy and all the volunteers!
Again this year, a selection committee will be driving through the peninsula, selecting 3 residences that typify a natural green or woodland setting. Signs honoring these homes will be placed during the weekend of April 8-10, with permission of the homeowner. This is never an easy task as there are so many choices that could be made!
Be sure to place brush out in front of your home, if you live on a Dogwood Trail street, before April 1st.

Neighborhood Cleanup Day Report – March 19, 2016

Our annual Neighborhood Cleanup Day occurred March 19, 2016 from 9 AM to noon culminating with a pizza victory luncheon at Lake Hills Church picnic shelter.
This year 36 people participated in the cleanup on the day of the event and another 4 will continue the cleanup on the following days. We saw many familiar faces and some new participants.

Teams were dispatched to pick up trash on Maloney Rd., Maloney Park, and Montlake Rd. with a total of 27 bags collected. This year our TEAM GERKIN collected the trashbags and delivered them to the dump.

In addition to this a massive cleanup effort occurred at Circle Lake Park with bales of leaves and sticks removed. On Bluff Point a team spread 3 truckloads of mulch. At the end of Maloney Rd where the circle occurs, a team of 3 removed years of leaves and trash and uncovered a potential garden.

Some dogwood bows were made available and purchased.

Keep Knoxville Beautiful supplied trashbags, safety vests, gloves, Tshirts and pickers.

Cost to LHHA for the event was $116.30 for the food and beverages.

Kara Hudgens captured the event on camera and has the images posted on her website. We will transfer some to the LHHA website and the LHHA Facebook page.

Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make this possible and help prepare Lakemoor Hills for the Dogwood Festival.

Happy Easter to everyone!  The LHHA Social Committee wants to remind everyone that Lake Hills Presbyterian Church has invited all the children in the neighborhood to its Easter egg hunt this Saturday, March 26, at 2:00.  All the children need to bring is a basket, and the church will provide the eggs, refreshments and crafts.  So mark your calendar and come, join the fun!  Thanks!  Diane de Ropp and Suzan Bowman

Our 7 year old feathered child Duke is still missing. He is grey with a very light grey head, a black hooked beak and very bright red tail slated tail feathers. He’s about the size of a large dove. He whistles Amazing Grace and loves to yell my name, “Hey, Marianne.” He also says, Hello, Pilgrim” a lot. He speaks in a man’s voice and has a very huge vocabulary and speaks in long sentences so you may hear almost anything from the trees if he is there. Thank you for continuing to keep your ears and eyes open. We have a very sad and empty house right now. As much as we loved him, one would think he would have loved us enough not to leave home to search for a spring bride. Silly boy. Thanks again. Odgie and Marianne Oliveira

We will meet at the church parking lot RAIN or SHINE at 9 AM.  Photo op will happen as soon as we have a critical mass.  A team is going to Circle Lake Park and one to Bluff Point Park.  The rest of us will be assigned well traveled roads that have accumulated trash over the winter.

Keep Knoxville Beautiful has given us gloves, trash bags and trash pickers (I have 12).  We will have Pizza and beverages for lunch in the church pavilion.

I have T-shirts for those of you who said they don’t have one yet.  Unfortunately KKB only had medium and large shirts, sorry.

We will have bows for sale for $5.  These can be placed on your mailbox or other posts.

From: Marianne Oliveira Subject: Lost Bird Message Body: Just discovered my husband hadn’t paid the fee to join and he just put it in the mail!! This is the Oliveira from 2405 Craghead Lane. Our African Gray parrot Duke has once again escaped. He flew into the woods last night. We located in in a tall tree in the woods and tried to talk him down until dark. We went back early this morning and he was no longer there. For some reason he was flew west, so he is headed directly into the neighborhood. The problem is that Duke’s wing feathers have just recently grown out from the last trim and he does not have skilled ability to fly down and land. If you see him, please let us know. Our numbers are: Marianne cellphone is 865-679-7999 Odgie cellphone is 865-660-3133 Home phone is 865-577-3133 Duke is a very friendly bird. Just hold out you hand vertically above his little feet and he will step right up onto your finger. Then, please take him inside and sit him on a stair rail, or the back of a chair if you don’t wish to hold him. We will come and pick him up immediately. Duke loves bananas, oranges, grapes, crackers, chips, peanuts, and most of all he loves a bite of cheese. If found he will be thirsty and he will sit on your finger and drink water or juice from a shot glass. Duke is gray with a bright red tail and a black big. He likes to say “Hello, pilgrim” and he loves to yell my name, “Hey, Marianne.” He talks in long sentences in a man’s voice, and if he starts talking you will discover that he is politically conservative and he may even ask for your vote. Duke is 7 years old and has the vocabulary of about a 3 year old child when he talks. This form will not all me to post a picture. Thanks again for your help. Please come out and join us as we pick up trash, mulch and make other improvements to the neighborhood this Saturday.   There is  group that will be focusing on Circle Lake Park and one focusing on Bluff Point median strip in addition to others who will be picking up trash along the roads throughout the neighborhood.

If you cannot make it on Saturday, you can still participate by selecting a street and picking up the roadside trash another day.  Just let me know which street you are focusing your efforts.

I need one person with a pickup truck who will drive the streets and pick up the bagged trash after the pickup is completed.

We will have pizza and drinks in the Lake Hills Church picnic shelter starting about 11:15.

We will also have pink and green bows for your mailboxes for $5.

Meet at Lake Hills Church at 9 AM Saturday morning for your assignment.
