Appreciation Award for Natural Beauty

April 18, 2022 by Randy Kerns

Every year, during what I call our “fifth season…Dogwood Trail Season”, three homes are awarded the   .  The following are the three winners picked by our secret panel of judges (random order):

We start with 2524 Craighead Lane.  Located at the Montlake entrance to our neighborhood, this classic Lakemoor Hills home and property sets the spirit of our neighborhood.  Eye popping dogwoods along with other trees and foliage wonderfully positioned creating a woodsy but lived in feel.  Special Note – they have also recently added new plantings, also strategically placed to further increase the foliage.  A wonderful lesson to all of us to keep planting.

Now we work our way up Timberlake Dr., without falling into the sinkhole, to 3404 Timberlake Dr.  A cute and warm 1949 home, on a hillside overlooking the smoky mountains, passed down through a family who cares about this neighborhood, with amazing gardens and woods…OK what says Lakemoor Hills better than that!  The property has a dynamic blend of woodlands, groomed gardens and seating area with running water for relaxing and bird watching.  Lighting up the front of the property are mature screaming bright azaleas (some moved from other family homes) under a canopy of dogwoods.  Smaller plants are sprinkled around such as variegated Solomon’s Seal and Columbine doing their spring thing and they love their Black Eyed Susans!  Providing the backdrop for all the color is a cluster of mature and new pines including Eastern Hemlocks.  Yes, they have been treated for the wooley adegid, are yours?  Pictured in this post is the proud owner/gardener MD.

For our third winner we will travel to the other side of our peninsula to 2201 Woodmere Lane.  This beautiful corner hillside property close to the river includes a lovely home that blends will within the property and the woods behind it.  A variety of well-maintained trees provides front coverage.  It also includes flower beds which are gathering up a head of steam to brighten the property throughout the summer.  Don’t miss the garden art in the courtyard and pieces hanging under the soffits adding a fantastic extra touch.

Congratulations to these winners.  The entire neighborhood looks great so you are all winners!

I’ve put our crack photographer on it to get some better pics which I will post when completed.  Or better yet drive by and check them out.

Note to winners, I will collect the signs the first week of May.

March 14, 2022 by Randy Kerns

The picnic committee has designed a wonderful day for all of us to get together to visit with old neighbors and meet new ones.  This picnic is open to everyone living in Lakemoor Hills with lots of activities for children.    The following is information about the day and activities in which you might want to participate.

Date:        Saturday April 2, 2022

Time:       2PM to 6PM (arrive by 1:45PM to watch or march in the opening parade)

Location: Lake Hills Presbyterian Church grounds

Opening Ceremonies & Parade

The day will commence with a rumbling procession of the entrees in the car show bringing in our Grand Marshal, Ann Graf (1:50PM).  Immediately after that, the parade will commence with a ribbon cutting by the Grand Marshal.

Special note about our Grand Marshal. Ann Graf has worked hard chairing the Dogwood Committee for 12 years.  This is her last year chairing the committee, so we are sending her off with a big thank you and a Golf Cart ride in the parade!

Parade Info and Participation

The parade route is one lap around the walking trail of the church grounds.  Please come out in time to either watch the parade (2PM) or better yet MARCH IN IT (be there at 1:45PM).

Pre-Parade Children’s Activity – Children ages 4 to 14 are invited to help design and paint the parade banner.  This will occur at 11am the day of the picnic at the church picnic tables.  One hour duration.

  • No-dogs please.

Parade Bikes – nonmotor bikes only.  We ask that you decorate your bike with something representing spring.

  • Registration is not required. Simply show up at 1:45 at the church to line up for the parade.
  • After the parade you can show off your bike next to the classic cars.

  • Food – Food Trucks will be on location for your purchase. Due to Covid we will not be providing or sharing food.
  • Jam with the Band – there will be a performer. They will also be doing a very “loose” jam session.  Bring your instruments and join in!

2022 Neighborhood Cleanup – March 19

March 12, 2022 by Kathy Proctor

Greetings Neighbors

I know it doesn’t look like it today, but SPRING IS ON THE WAY!    The Dogwood Trail will open on March 31 with a ribbon cutting in our neighborhood.  So we need to get ready!!

This year we will hold our Neighborhood Cleanup Day on March 19 (next Saturday).  Some of you may not be available next Saturday, so I want to encourage you to take the time, when the snow melts, to select a street and take a walk and gather any trash that you see along the way.

If you do this, please email me and tell me what street has been cleaned.  That will allow us to focus our efforts on other streets in the neighborhood on Saturday.

For those of you that want to wait until Saturday, please meet at Lake Hills Church parking lot at 9 AM.  I will have garbage bags, pickers, safety vests and gloves for you to use.   We will also have pizza at 11 AM in the church pavilion to refuel you after your hard work!

Come join us and help make Lakemoor Hills sparkle!

Kathy Proctor. ([email protected])
