Pre-Frances KUB Checklist

September 13, 2018 by David Couch

Hello neighbors, in preparation for some possible outages due to hurricane Frances, C.L. would like to provide a link for your convenience to the K.U.B. Outage Center.

And more specifically the checklist for preparedness.

Here is an excerpt from the KUB Website:

How You Can Prepare for Storms

Our employees are prepared, and we want our customers to be prepared too. You can be prepared for storms by planning ahead:

  • Keep emergency supplies on hand such as batteries, flashlights, a battery-operated radio, nonperishable food items, bottled water, and a charged cell phone. The Red Cross suggests including a supply of your necessary medications.
  • Keep your KUB account information up-to-date, such as your phone number and e-mail address. A correct phone number will allow you to use the automated system to report your outage and check its status. You can update your contact information by logging into your account and choosing Manage Account. For additional tips, review our Power Outage Reference Guide.
  • Have a plan for what you’d do in the event of a multi-day power outage. This may include getting a hotel room, or staying with friends or family.
  • Have and know how to safely operate a portable generator. Be sure to follow the instructions in your owners manual, as well as these tips:
    • Generators should be installed and inspected by licensed electricians. Improperly installed generators can be a safety hazard to utility workers as well as to homeowners.
    • Never connect the generator to your home’s main wiring circuit. Disconnect your home from the power system before hooking up a generator. If you don’t, electricity may flow backward into the power lines, endangering you, your neighbors, and the linemen who are working to restore power.
    • Locate the generator outside your home. Gasoline-powered generators can produce deadly carbon monoxide.
    • Plug appliances directly into the generator. Use extension cords if necessary, but do not exceed the recommended wattage noted on the generator.

Power Outage

September 4, 2018 by David Couch

Here’s some news from C.L. Overman regarding the power outage that began around 6pm:

~8:45pm

Just traded emails and he is trying to find out the severity of the damage from the downed tree at Tall Pine/Montlake. Will advise.

~9:15pm:

Not good news from a KUB rep. The tree broke a cross arm so they are having to pull new primary and neutral. Making an estimate of time is just a guess. Could be a while.

C.L.

LHHA Dues Letters Hit the Mailboxes

September 3, 2018 by Kathy Proctor

Hello Neighbors,

In the past week each of you should have received the renewal letter for your LHHA membership.  (Our calendar year runs from Sept. 1 to August 30.)  I tried to list many of the benefits that your small investment brings to you in the accompanying letter, such as the discount with Waste Connections, the Emergency Response Team that mobilizes during severe weather incidents, and the great neighborhood picnic and events.  And you know we have lots of other things going on!!

To remain a part of our homeowners’ association, please make your checks to Lakemoor Hills HOA and return your payment of $25 to Bill Stoess, 4000 Maloney Rd.  You could also bring the payment to the next LHHA meeting on Tuesday, September 11 (7 PM) at Lake Hills Church.  Or you can go online to www.lakemoor.org, log into the website and pay online.

Any additional tax deductible donations that you choose to make to improve our neighborhood should be written to the Lakemoor Hills Resource Council, our 501(c)3.

Your contributions will help us continue to improve our neighborhood and keep The Quiet Side of the River (Lakemoor Hills)  the best little neighborhood in Knox County .

Kathy Proctor

Sip & Snoop reminder – Tix still available – don’t get shut out!

August 25, 2018 by Randy Kerns

2018’s Fab Five

All five of our custom-built 2018 Sip and Snoop homes share investments made out of their owners’ love for Lakemoor Hills. Their common roots are not evident in their varied styles and interpretations. But five stories will become one on October 7 between 2:00 and 5:00, when you enjoy a Sunday afternoon mixing, mingling, eating, and sipping wine with your neighbors. And your cost of admission goes toward beautifying our neighborhood’s new Alcoa Highway entrances.

Stuart’s first Lakemoor Hills’ house was a small log cabin on Maloney Road. He and Betsy grew a family and built their enchanting log house on Buckboard. His compound of log structures is best viewed from the water and you will do just that as you arrive via water taxi thanks to our neighbor, Volunteer Landing. The main house appears to be floating above the river.   The Worden home is also being featured at an already sold-out Knox Heritage Summer Supper. So make your S&S reservation now.

Tim moved to a tiny concrete house on Maloney Road in the 90s and stayed to build his dream home and his family. Today’s home makes the best use of its river views while providing a livable sanctuary for the family and their four-legged friends. Tim and Kathleen share not just their home, but also an enviable launch point for our water taxi.

You’ve admired their perfect yard and now’s your chance to look inside. Fran and Fred began their Lakemoør life on Timberlake. They left that house but not their beloved neighborhood when they built this home at the corner of Maloney and Circle Lake. Today their love-of-Lakemoor is not only evident in the exquisite detail of their home but also in their work to establish the Lakemoor Legacy Garden at the other end of Circle Lake.

First came a Cape Cod complete with a horse in 2003. Then came building their forever home next door where they moved in 2012. Skip and Kim enjoy the sunrise and sunset views from their current home on Maloney. From the street you can’t see their expansive backyard complete with a pool. Come and enjoy their attention to detail while wishing you could stay.

The Scott’s secluded gem has its own eight-acre park-like setting on Trillium. Lakemoor Hills drew them from their Woodson Drive home when Bill Shell (S&S 2017) offered them a chance to purchase the land in 2013. Shay and Shanle took a blank sheet of paper and designed this house capturing the idyllic setting and their lifestyle. They moved in and welcomed their son in 2016, assuring a house full of love, noise, and works in process.

Roofing repair recommendation

August 21, 2018 by Karen Hughes

Can anyone recommend a roofing repair company?  We have suddenly developed a significant leak, likely coming from a skylight. Thank you.
