Dumping Increasing at Entry to Lakemoor Hills
Entering the subdivision yesterday I noticed that there was a large amount of debris adjacent to the parking area just west of the triangle at Alcoa Hwy. The more I thought about it the madder I got so today I went by to see if the bags of trash included identification that could tie it back to the owner. I took these photos when I realized the extent of the debris – bags of trash, a blue plastic tub and many, many quart beer bottles. When I peered into the blue tub, there was an animal leg (with hoof), and the bag closest to the tub seems to be filled with more decaying animal parts – perhaps deer (?). I cannot believe that anyone who actually lives within our neighborhood would do this and I ask all of you to be vigilant to speak out to anyone that you see contributing to this disgrace. Does anyone know if the city or county will help remove these animal parts as it certainly may be a health issue?
Lakemoor Hills Garden Club Announces New Community Gardens
The daytime garden club in our neighborhood has been working with a landscape architect to develop gardens on two pieces of Knox County Highway Dept. property within Lakemoor Hills. One is the 1/10th mile median strip along Bluff Point and the other is the circular property in the cut-de-sac at the end of Circle Lake. These two designs will be on display at the LHHA meeting on Nov. 17 at 7 PM at Lake Hills Church. The gardens are designed to be demonstration areas using plants that are native to our area and attract birds and butterflies. They also incorporate rain garden designs that will help mitigate storm water issues along certain properties. Knox County Stormwater Department has worked with us to develop the ideas and is providing some of the funding through a grant program for the plant acquisition and installation. There will be seating areas, walking paths, a small gathering area for music or storytelling, and beauty for all seasons. Development of the gardens will happen over a period of time and there will be many opportunities for neighbors to become involved. Come Tuesday night to see the designs and hear more about our plans.

Please Curb Your Dogs
The Beautification Committee funded and installed Doggie Poop Stations throughout the neighborhood in the past few years. One is at Circle Lake Park, one in the Bluff Point median strip, two adjacent to the trail at Lake Hills Church and one is at Maloney Road Park by the trailhead.
If you forget your plastic bag to pick up after your pet, please avail yourself of one of the bags in the poop stations and clean up what your pet has left behind. You wouldn’t want to find a big surprise in your yard when you are mowing that someone else’s dog deposited.
Just as they ask us to do in the Smokies, please don’t leave a trace.
Thank you for your help to keep our neighborhood beautiful!
Weed the Triangle – Friday 9 AM
As you know the rains have come and the weeds have grown. If you can donate a little time to pull a few weeds, there is a group meeting at 9 AM on Friday, June 5 at the Alcoa triangle to get the weeds out. Please join us. Many hands make the work quick and easy.
TDOT Completes Improvements to Alcoa Hwy / Maloney Rd.
After TDOT completed the reconstruction at the intersection of Alcoa Hwy and Maloney Rd., it was evident that a deceleration lane was not possible with existing utility lines. The LHHA was told that the utilities could not be moved for the deceleration lane installed at this time. LHHA requested that additional signage and striping be installed to warn motorists about the narrow shoulder. That work was recently completed, as shown in the attached photo.
Eagles Nesting in Lakemoor Hills?
Has anyone seen the eagles that have appeared along the bluff overlooking Sequoyah Hills Park? We are trying to determine if they are nesting on our peninsula. If anyone has spotted the bird (s) or their nest, please me know. We need to document this to stop a potential manmade intrusion to the neighborhood. Kathy Proctor [email protected]
Neighborhood Cleanup Day a Success!

Thank all of you who came out to help on our Annual Neighborhood Cleanup Day. There were a number of new faces that joined us this year. We couldn’t get everyone to hold still at the same time for the photo, so here’s a representative group that were documented.
Here are some of the outcomes:
- 29 volunteers on Saturday and more before and after March 28
- 85 hours of volunteer time
- 600 lbs of trash collected
- 8 miles of roads cleaned
- 1/4 mile of shoreline cleaned & the embayment at Maloney Rd. park
- daffodils planted at the park
- weeds pulled, leaves raked at Bluff Point and Circle Lake greenspaces
Most unusual items found along the road: 4″ light fixture, ladies black lace panties, a wallet from a Seymour resident.
Big THANK YOU to Keep Knoxville Beautiful for providing the garbage bags, gloves and tee shirts. And THANK YOU to Ijams Park for arranging the garbage bag pickup from Maloney Rd. Park. But mostly – THANK YOU to the residents of Lakemoor Hills who take pride in their neighborhood and helped to make it beautiful!
With great gratitude from the Beautification Committee!!!
