Oak firewood available – you cut and haul

Oak firewood available – you cut and haul

June 18, 2018 by James Lawler

Two oak trees came down, curbside, at 2420 Trillium Lane while I was out of town.  I’ve hired someone to haul the remnants away, but it looks like good firewood, so I thought I’d let the neighborhood know of its availability.

A warning about an animal attack and a sighting

June 17, 2018 by Charles Mulligan

I had a call tonight from Julie Stelter who house sits for Mary and Ed Jeffries. On June 4th, she was walking her dog on a leash while the Jeffries dog was in the yard. She just left the house going down Woodmere when another animal (she thought a dog at the time) ran up and attacked her dog (a poodle) going for the head. She kicked the attacker with all her might. The animal turned on her growling. At that moment, the Jeffries’ dog came running over and the attacker left. Today, in the evening, she was walking across Blow Drive to the Childress’s house when she saw the same animal coming out of Shivers’ property. Today she thought it was not a dog but a coyote. The animal was gray, black and brown. Julie asked me to post this as a warning to people with small animals and children in the neighborhood.

Dog Pickup Bags updates

June 14, 2018 by Randy Kerns

Dog Pickup Bags updates
The bag unit at Bluff Point has an active bird’s nest in it with eggs. The bags are hanging on the outside of the unit until the birds fledge.

Secondly, be careful when getting the dog pickup bags out of the bag units. There are wasp residing in a couple of them. We are spraying them so they should be eliminated this evening. But always tap the box before you grab in the summer.

A big thank you to Cindy Moore McLaughlin for risking life and limb against the wasp today refilling the bags. You are a hero!!!

Caladiums for Beautiful Gardens

May 30, 2018 by Suzan Bowman

The Lakemoor Hills Garden Club is selling beautiful Caladiums.  We planted over 700 bulbs several months ago and they are now ready to sell.  The money raised goes to garden club projects at the Legacy Park and the new roundabouts at Alcoa Highway.

Caladiums are easy to grow in landscape beds and containers.  They like a little shade, but will grow in sun.   Shop early for best selection.  We have several varieties: Red Fancy Leaf, White Fancy Leaf and Pink Fancy Leaf.

5 plants for $20.00…..or $5.00 each.  Call 579-9001 and leave your order.  We will be selling them in the neighborhood, and let your friends outside of Lakemoor Hills know as well.  These are quality plants and much better than what you find at the big box stores.

Thank you!

Radar sign test phase

May 26, 2018 by C.L. Overman

LHHA Traffic Safety Task Force
C.L. Overman
(865) 363-2663

Our radar speed sign has been located on Maloney northbound just past the church. The sign is adjacent to the community Christmas tree.

The sign company is going to adjust for [adjusted] the sign for proper operations today or tomorrow [May 23rd or 24th]. We will let it run a couple of days at that location to iron out the kinks.

Lakemoor Hills Presb. Church was helpful to provide the location as we cannot locate it on street right-of-way. Other good neighbors have provided spots for the sign along Montlake both downhill and uphill. We could use a couple more sites along Maloney if any kindly neighbor would like to volunteer a nice open site. The traffic engineer turned down one volunteered Maloney site for being too close to the road. If you would like to volunteer your yard, please give me a call and I’ll drop by to take a look.

Thanks again for your assistance and support.”

Radar Speed Signs Arriving

May 21, 2018 by C.L. Overman

Image result for traffic sensor tubesLakemoor Hills will again be seeing speed sensor tubes on Maloney Road and Montlake Drive. Once the tubes are placed for a few days and in a continued effort to keep our neighborhood streets safe, the LHHA Traffic Safety Task Force will be locating a radar speed sign at various locations along our two main roads. We are renting the sign for a limited period of time to determine feasibility for long-term use.

Safe Pace 625, Radar Feedback Sign, A/C, White

We will be testing the sign in initial locations starting this week (Wk of May 21) to iron out the kinks. It will simply state the speed limit (30 MPH) and your speed. It will provide a learning experience for us all.

The Knox County traffic engineer will analyze the data once we run the sign for a few weeks to determine the effect of the signs.

We will then have hard data to help us determine whether further use of the signs is warranted.

Dependant on the outcome, we may run another pilot after school starts in the fall.

Please note that the sign is very expensive and that your neighbors and the LHHA is paying for the rental and is responsible for the sign.

Please remember the importance of traffic safety in our neighborhood for all residents. School is out now or soon so more of our kids and grandkids will be home.

Comments, questions, suggestions, etc?

Thanks to all for your cooperation and assistance.
