Hi, my name is Ben Swann and I live on Mccarrell lane.  My black lab Bo wandered off around 11am this morning and has yet to return.  He always comes home but has not yet.  I just wanted to let everyone know he is not a stray because he got out without a collar. If anyone has picked him up, my cell is (865) 310-3771.  Thank you and I’m sorry for the nuisance.  He has white markings on his chest and about 65lbs.

An update from the Traffic Safety Task Force

July 23, 2017 by Lakemoor Hills

The site has been updated with resources and documents from the Traffic Safety Task Force. Here is an excerpt from Eric Zeanah earlier this week:

From: Eric Zeanah
Sent: Tuesday, July 18, 2017 5:39 PM

Just an update from Timberlake. If you drive Timberlake in both directions, you will see at least three home signs families have created. One is very creative out of wood. But what really pleased me is I stopped to visit with Marcia Finfer, who walks her three dogs on Timberlake daily. I asked if she had seen an improvement since we started our efforts and her response was an enthusiastic, “Absolutely!”. Below is the e-mail she sent back in January when I had open discussions with the street before we started. She is now extremely appreciative.

“I have three dogs, as you all know, and have almost been hit twice.  Bernie also was run off the road while walking the mutts.  It has been suggested that I take the dogs to a dog park for their walks so that drivers don’t have to slow down.  Rumble strips will not stop the speed and assumed rights of drivers, and the strips might be quite annoying to neighbors who are close to the road.”

Let’s get the message posted. I am traveling the next two weeks but can be reached by e-mail. There has really been a difference on our street.

Thanks,

Eric

Gently Used or New Garden Supplies Needed for Refugee Garden

July 21, 2017 by Suzan Bowman

At the Lakemoor Hills Garden Club meeting earlier this month, a special guest from Bridge Refugee Services talked about this project described below.  They need to collect supplies prior to the end of the month of July.
If you have items that you can donate, please contact Jessica Barousse at [email protected].
Bridge Refugee Services is working in partnership with the Trinity Foundation and with UT Gardens to develop a community garden to use as a therapeutic tool for newly arrived refugees or for those who have struggled continuously with PTSD or emotion regulation. Since a majority of the cultures Bridge works with do not value therapy, or rather mistrust it. Therefore it is essential to find alternative means to help encourage the therapeutic process with refugees through alternative means especially for those clients who are struggling to find work, have a previous history of experiencing extreme violence and oppression, and fleeing for their lives.
Bridge needs to purchase and find materials, as well as expert gardeners to help coordinate this program. They intend to build two 4×10 raised beds and need a hose, cardboard, fill dirt, darker organic soil mix (8-12 inch deep for each bed), organic fertilizers, mulch, and volunteers 🙂

Once established, they will plant crops that are easily grown in this area, including green beans, squash, cucumbers, kale, spinach, turnips, cherry tomatoes. As an added bonus, there is a team working on converting an old bus into a storage and utility shed for this project that will be an added piece of art.

If you have any equipment, bags of soil, seeds or fertilizer that you can donate, please contact Jessica no later than Sunday July 30.  Thank you,

Coyote alert! Another cat killed!

July 21, 2017 by Diane DeRopp

It is with great sadness that we inform you that our cat, Abby, was killed last night and we suspect that a coyote got her.  We live at 4126 Maloney Road and lost our cat, Morris, a year ago to the same fate.  Both cats were allowed inside/outside, and being prone to explore at night were vulnerable to attacks.  We would suggest to those of you who have cats to keep them in at night.  We will certainly be more cautious with our remaining cat, Smoky.
