Drivers Beware at Alcoa Hwy and Montlake

January 26, 2018 by Kathy Proctor

I wanted to relate an incident that occurred yesterday that surprised me quite a bit.  I was the passenger in a car attempting to exit Lakemoor Hills and go north on Alcoa Hwy from Montlake.  The driver of our car saw an opening coming up and pulled out across the southbound lane.  The car on the inside lane going south was flying (no surprise there) and laid on his horn to express his displeasure at having to apply his brakes.    We proceeded across to the acceleration lane and entered Alcoa Hwy headed north.  To our surprise we saw blue lights in the mirrors and were subsequently pulled over and ticketed.  My driver got a ticket for Failure to Yield.  The officer said that since the Alcoa Hwy driver had to apply his brakes and honk his horn, we were causing the problem by not yielding to that driver’s progress.  We pointed out that the driver was certainly speeding, and the officer said, “Yes, I clocked him at 55 MPH but I cannot ticket him unless he is going faster than that”.  What !?!

So I hope you take this lesson to heart, even if it is hard to understand who really is at fault.

Upcoming LHHA Meeting Reminder

January 18, 2018 by Kathy Proctor

Greetings Neighbors!

Hope everyone has survived the cold and can begin to navigate around our neighborhood.  There are still icy spots in the shady areas, so take caution wherever you drive in Lakemoor Hills.  I just wanted to remind you that we have two speakers coming to our January 30 homeowner’s meeting that will be addressing both wildlife and domesticated animals in the neighborhood.  Try to reach out to a neighbor that may have never attended one of our meetings or socials and bring them with you.

If you have any issues or concerns  that you would like your LHHA board to address, please contact me. [email protected]  I look forward to seeing you the last Tuesday of this month.

LHHA Leadership Positions Available for FY 2019

January 11, 2018 by Kathy Proctor

In May of 2018 we will be holding an election to fill some board positions that will become vacant.  Our bylaws state that a Lakemoor Hills Homeowners’ Association (LHHA) board member serves a two-year term and may serve two consecutive terms.  Then they must roll off the board or run for an officer position.  This year we have two members who have served two consecutive terms so their positions will become vacant.   If you have interest in serving in leadership in the LHHA, please contact me (Kathy Proctor 599-7783) or Sharon Gerkin, Chair of the Nominating Committee, to find out more about these roles.

We live in the best neighborhood in Knox County – the quiet side of the river – and there are many opportunities that will be developing to enrich this area as the Alcoa Hwy project (phase I) nears completion.  We have an energetic board that is passionate about this neighborhood.  Please let me know if you have interest in being a part of our future.

LHHA Membership Meeting Jan. 30

January 10, 2018 by Kathy Proctor

Greetings Neighbors,

The LHHA will hold our January meeting on January 30 at 7 PM at Lake Hills Church.  We will have  speakers  from TN Wildlife Resource Agency and Knox County Animal Control that will address issues involving the wildlife and domesticated animals in our neighborhood.  Should you feed that cute raccoon?  What snakes are helpful and what should we avoid?  Does your neighbor have a dog that is pretty noisy?  How can we best coexist with the abundant wildlife and how do we deal with predators?  Bring your questions the last Tuesday of the month and join us to learn more about the animals that live amongst us.

See you then!

Happy New Year & Stay Safe!

December 31, 2017 by Kathy Proctor

Greetings neighbors.  I hope you are bundled up warm in your homes or somewhere warm.  I wanted to wish all of you in Lakemoor Hills a very Happy New Year.  And we can stay happy if we take simple precautions.  I was informed today that one of our neighbors on Maloney Rd. has experienced a break-in and was burglarized. (between De. 15 & 22)   The house had no security system, no lights, no autos visible and was an easy target.  Please take care when you plan to be away from home.  Set your security system.  Tell your neighbors when you will return.  Leave on lights to make the house look occupied.  We can all look out for each other to help prevent this type of intrusions in the future.  Be safe.  Stay warm.  See you next year.

Alcoa Hwy: November 28, 2017

Contract CNQ029 Alcoa Highway SR 115 (US 129)

November 28, 2017 Project Update

Crews continue to work on Collector Road #1 at Maloney Road (west). Maloney Rd. detours using Ginn Dr. to access Alcoa Hwy will remain in place until the collector is complete. The contractor is working to try to get the collector complete to the stage where traffic can use it to access Alcoa Hwy. Hopefully weather will allow this to be done before the new year.

Wall #8 construction is ongoing. Many of the smaller retaining walls on the south end of the project are complete. Wall crews will head north to begin work on Wall #9. Wall #9 is located on the west side of Alcoa Hwy between the end of the project and Montlake Dr. In order to do this work, southbound traffic will need to be shifted toward the center of Alcoa Hwy to allow room to work. During this shift, the southbound left turn lane to Woodson Dr. will be removed. Motorist will be allowed right turns from Woodson to NB Alcoa Hwy only. Motorist should prepare to detour using John Sevier Hwy & Maryville Pike. Traffic is expected to remain in this condition thru March 2018.

The Traffic Alert regarding the traffic shift will be shared with the media today.
