Announcing: MONTLAKE ROAD CLOSURE _ Nov. 8, 9, 10 (7 PM to 5 AM)

October 29, 2020 by Kathy Proctor

MONTLAKE ROAD CLOSURE _ Nov. 8, 9, 10 (7 PM to 5 AM)
The Blalock project manager of the Alcoa Hwy project contacted the LHHA leadership and wanted for us to inform the neighborhood of the following:
Tentatively scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 8, Monday Nov. 9 and possibly Tuesday, Nov 10 – they plan to do some paving work on Montlake between the end of the current roundabout to approximately Craghead. The goal is to put enough layers of asphalt on this area to meet the correct grade making a smooth connection from the roundabout to Montlake. The work will be done at night, 7 PM to 5 AM.   The section of  Montlake that will be affected is the exit off Alcoa at Montlake up to Craghead.  (You will have to exit Alcoa at Maloney when going south)   Detour signage will go up to reroute drivers to the Maloney exit both on Alcoa Hwy and within the neighborhood. This is just a 3 night closure.
Once this is accomplished, the final items will start on the east and west access roads with a goal to have all bridges across Alcoa Hwy open by the first of December.
All schedules are subject to weather issues, but if the temps stay above 35 and there are no more hurricanes, we might make the schedule.

Pre-Frances KUB Checklist

September 13, 2018 by David Couch

Hello neighbors, in preparation for some possible outages due to hurricane Frances, C.L. would like to provide a link for your convenience to the K.U.B. Outage Center.

And more specifically the checklist for preparedness.

Here is an excerpt from the KUB Website:

How You Can Prepare for Storms

Our employees are prepared, and we want our customers to be prepared too. You can be prepared for storms by planning ahead:

  • Keep emergency supplies on hand such as batteries, flashlights, a battery-operated radio, nonperishable food items, bottled water, and a charged cell phone. The Red Cross suggests including a supply of your necessary medications.
  • Keep your KUB account information up-to-date, such as your phone number and e-mail address. A correct phone number will allow you to use the automated system to report your outage and check its status. You can update your contact information by logging into your account and choosing Manage Account. For additional tips, review our Power Outage Reference Guide.
  • Have a plan for what you’d do in the event of a multi-day power outage. This may include getting a hotel room, or staying with friends or family.
  • Have and know how to safely operate a portable generator. Be sure to follow the instructions in your owners manual, as well as these tips:
    • Generators should be installed and inspected by licensed electricians. Improperly installed generators can be a safety hazard to utility workers as well as to homeowners.
    • Never connect the generator to your home’s main wiring circuit. Disconnect your home from the power system before hooking up a generator. If you don’t, electricity may flow backward into the power lines, endangering you, your neighbors, and the linemen who are working to restore power.
    • Locate the generator outside your home. Gasoline-powered generators can produce deadly carbon monoxide.
    • Plug appliances directly into the generator. Use extension cords if necessary, but do not exceed the recommended wattage noted on the generator.

Power Outage

September 4, 2018 by David Couch

Here’s some news from C.L. Overman regarding the power outage that began around 6pm:

~8:45pm

Just traded emails and he is trying to find out the severity of the damage from the downed tree at Tall Pine/Montlake. Will advise.

~9:15pm:

Not good news from a KUB rep. The tree broke a cross arm so they are having to pull new primary and neutral. Making an estimate of time is just a guess. Could be a while.

Alcoa Hwy: November 28, 2017

November 28, 2017 by Kathy Proctor

Contract CNQ029 Alcoa Highway SR 115 (US 129)

November 28, 2017 Project Update

Crews continue to work on Collector Road #1 at Maloney Road (west). Maloney Rd. detours using Ginn Dr. to access Alcoa Hwy will remain in place until the collector is complete. The contractor is working to try to get the collector complete to the stage where traffic can use it to access Alcoa Hwy. Hopefully weather will allow this to be done before the new year.

Wall #8 construction is ongoing. Many of the smaller retaining walls on the south end of the project are complete. Wall crews will head north to begin work on Wall #9. Wall #9 is located on the west side of Alcoa Hwy between the end of the project and Montlake Dr. In order to do this work, southbound traffic will need to be shifted toward the center of Alcoa Hwy to allow room to work. During this shift, the southbound left turn lane to Woodson Dr. will be removed. Motorist will be allowed right turns from Woodson to NB Alcoa Hwy only. Motorist should prepare to detour using John Sevier Hwy & Maryville Pike. Traffic is expected to remain in this condition thru March 2018.

The Traffic Alert regarding the traffic shift will be shared with the media today.

Montlake Single Lane Traffic

May 13, 2017 by C.L. Overman

During work hours over the next several weeks, Pipeline Construction, KUB’s waterline contractor, will be boring and installing a new 8″ waterline along the north side of Montlake Drive between Timberlake and Tall Pine.

This project requires the contractor to close the westbound lane of Montlake to accommodate equipment and personnel. After hours, it appears that the contractor is doing a good job removing obstacles to traffic.

The delay both directions on Montlake should be reasonable except possibly at rush hours, AM and PM. Please be considerate to the construction crew members as they are working hard to improve our water service.

I’ve driven the construction area both directions several times and it should generally flow pretty well if we are patient and plan ahead for some modest delay. I’ve already seen a very limited number of folks throw their hands up in utter disgust over a minor delay. Come on, people. This our neighborhood, not west Knoxville or New York City….

If you have suggestions, complaints, call BR-549; no actually my number is 363-2663 24/7 and I’m your friendly (generally) LHHA KUB rep C.L. Overman..

To subscribe to updates about this and other KUB projects, please have a look at the new forums.

Sorry if I Alarmed you… again.

May 12, 2017 by David Couch

In making updates to our site – once again I created pages in an effort to improve your experience with it. And the site then sent out emails to tell all of you great people what I’ve been up to.

It was supposed to be a surprise.

I’ll share a bit more about this at the next HOA meeting – see you there!
